Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy Herts
What is birth trauma?
Birth trauma is diagnosed in approximately 6% of women. A further 20-25% of women are suffering from the lasting effects of a traumatic birth, many of these may be diagnosed with postnatal depression as they do not fully fit the criteria for PTSD (post- traumatic stress disorder). Birth trauma can arise from experiencing or witnessing a birth where usually something has unexpected happens.
80% of women will process the traumatic event within 6-8 weeks of the birth. However, many women and their partners suffer the consequences of birth trauma for many months and years. Birth Trauma Resolution therapy is a quick and effective treatment to help alleviate the symptoms such as anxiety, hyper-vigilence, flashbacks, nightmares, panic attacks and will improve your relationship with your child and family members.
Women and partners who have experienced birth trauma may feel unable to reach out for help and if they do people often say “well you have a healthy baby and that’s all that matters”. Yes of course the most important thing, but this sort of response does not help you process this trauma and leaves women more lonely and isolated whilst coping with the after effects of trauma and a new baby to care for.
